KJFC Under 11 Match Reports

Sun 24th April - Blackpool Youth League

Warton Typhoons 1 v 7 Kirkham Juniors

It took Kirkham just six minutes to open the scoring in a one sided first half. Thomas Ward put Kirkham in front, and from there they never really looked back. George Chesworth added Kirkham’s second on twenty minutes, and a three more goals followed in quick succession. Thomas Ward added his second and Kirkham’s third, George Chesworth then scored number four before Louie Cottam scored with a fine header from outside of the penalty area.

To be fair to Warton they came out and played a lot better in the second half, however it was Kirkham who again scored with Chesworth completing his hat trick. Warton then pulled a goal back but any chance of a comeback was snubbed straight out as Joe Bennett scored a scorcher from just outside the penalty area.

The football from Kirkham was a lot better today, and instead of getting into a scrap, all players played their football.

Kirkham Man of Match – Joe Bennett

By Wyre Juniors beating BJFF it now means that no other team can reach 49 points so we should be confirmed as runners up in the league.

Well done to everyone for achieving this.

Fri 22nd April - Blackpool Youth League

Kirkham Juniors 3 v 3 Wyre Juniors

An exciting game of football from start to finish saw both teams go away with a share of the points.

Kirkham began brightly and it was no surprise when their pressure paid off as a speculative shot from George Chesworth saw a fumble by the otherwise reliable Wyre keeper to give Kirkham the lead. Wyre immediately upped their game and broke the Kirkham defence to score a well-crafted equaliser. With just three minutes to half time Kirkham then scored again through the impressive Jack Clark. Again Kirkham just couldn’t hold on to the lead and with a minute before half time the defence was breached to give Wyre another equaliser. It was unfortunate that steadfast central defender Keelan Livingstone had to leave the field due to an injury immediately prior to the equaliser, and perhaps this unsettled the Kirkham team and gave Wyre their way back in.

The second half then began in much the same way as the first with Kirkham pressing. After just four minutes an excellent strike by Jack Clark restored Kirkham’s advantage. The game then opened up and Kirkham were denied what appeared to be another goal by a linesman’s flag deciding that the ball had not crossed the line. George Chesworth then shot narrowly wide, which again could have put the game beyond Wyre. With just ten minutes remaining Wyre drew level with the award of a controversial penalty.

The game then turned a little ugly with a bad tackle by Wyre resulting in Kirkham having to take two-goal Jack Clark from the field. Wyre then thought they’d scored the winner only to be denied by the linesman’s flag, in the aftermath of this decision Kirkham’s James Hanlon picked up a yellow card for a off the ball incident.

All in all this was a good game of football between two sides that were both committed to their cause. The Kirkham players all played their parts but Jack Clark was given the nod for man of the match for his two well taken goals.

Tues 20th April - Blackpool Youth League

Kirkham Juniors 1 v 2 B.J.F.F.

The strong wind was always going to be a telling factor in this game, and with it at their backs Kirkham controlled the first half. Some good football was played and perhaps with a little more conviction and belief in themselves they could have fashioned a few more openings and got a good healthy lead at half time. Instead a solitary, albeit well taken strike, by Thomas Ward was all they had to show for their efforts.

BJFF began the second half with a lot more conviction than they had shown in the first half and after five minutes had drawn level. Kirkham did create a few chances but couldn’t take any of them. On thirteen minutes of the second half an unfortunate deflection took the ball over Kirkham’s keeper and BJFF had the lead.

Kirkham almost snatched a share of the points with a last gasp scramble, however somehow the ball stayed out.

All in all a better performance from Kirkham than in recent weeks however we seem to have lost a little of our belief in being able to win games. Good to see Jack Clark back after injury. Good individual performances from Alan Suvajev, Joe Bennett and Thomas Ward, however they were just edged out by Keelan Livingstone for Kirkham’s man of the match award.
