Sun 21st March - Blackpool Youth League
Kirkham Juniors 2 v 0 Warton Typhoons
The real test was today’s game against a Warton side who have beaten us in our last two meetings. This was a real bottom of the table 6 pointer and guess what? I had to sneak off work again to watch it !!
We had some good possession in the first few minutes but didn’t convert the few chances we had. Warton battled well as expected and began to get more of a grip on the game. This was turning out to be a really close game and with both sides pressing well, they almost cancelled each other out. Inevitably the score remained Nil Nil at half time.
Warton started brighter in the second half but the game ebbed and flowed as every good local derby should, with both teams having good passages of play. The first real chance fell to Warton with a shot from the right hand side of the area which was saved well by Nathan. Kirkham were slow to react and the point blank follow up shot was brilliantly saved once again by Nathan.
This could have been the turning point of the game. We seemed to start getting a foothold in the game and with the defence working hard and the midfield battling well, it appeared that we may get the breakthrough we deserved. Callum was seeing more of the ball and put the Warton defence under some real pressure. Eventually the break came when a scramble in the Warton penalty area ended up with the ball falling to Elliot on the edge of the box. He calmly lashed the ball low and hard into the bottom right hand corner, giving the keeper little chance. The crowd went wild!!!
This didn’t seem to deter Warton, who kept pressing and working hard in midfield, however Matty, Ritchie and Stu did a sterling job keeping them out.
Eventually the game was done and dusted when Callum struck a sweet half volley from the edge of the area which squirmed under the keeper and in. The crowd went wild again (and I went horse !!)
This was a typical local derby that had a bit of everything and I have to say Warton played their part.
Well done guys. Lets build on this result and keep our “Domino’s” status.
Man of the match – NATHAN JONES for his quality double save and safe hands. Well done !!
